Our Story
"Hooves and Hearts Equine Rehab and Rescue begun as a way to help horses in need. I grew up on ranches and feed lots most of my life. So from a very young age I understood the importance of taking care of my animals or animals is my care. In early 2020 when the COVID-19 Pandemic hit, by the end of March there were people already looking to re-home or have someone rescue many horses. My very first project was 4 horses out of the mountains. They had been owned by a woman who had entrusted their care to someone she was paying. Upon a surprise visit to the ranch where they were kept she found them in bad shape. She contacted me for help through a mutual friend and I went to pick up the first 4. Once we got them settled in we began working on a plan to get them all help. That is when I decided that there would be great need for opening and having a way to fund for their care. After research in surrounding areas, we discovered that most of the facilities are over flowing with horses and cattle in need. So over the next year we were able to rehabilitate the horses, and get most of them rehomed. So we then decided to move forward and start our journey to save horses and animals in need." -Dana Mendoza, Founder and Owner of HHERR.
